Commission a New Work
Commissioning a piece from a living composer can be just the thing to help move your ensemble or solo performance to the next level of involvement and achievement. Being part of the process from the ground up in creating a work of art can create a connection to a piece that leads to the kind of commitment in rehearsal and performance that cannot be duplicated any other way.
All of the NW Choral composers are experienced with the commissioning process and have a proven track record of good relationships with the choirs and conductors who have commissioned us. These projects have ranged from pieces for special events to more open-ended projects, from shorter pieces to mass-length works, from unaccompanied chorus to the full range of orchestral accompaniment.
The first stage is simply exploring the possibilities. Who would perform the piece? What is the performing situation? What are performers’ technical capabilities? For choral and solo vocal works, what words shall we use?
As we answer those questions, we then draw up an agreement that clearly states the parameters of the commission and the expectations we all have from each other.
Whether your project is just the beginnings of an idea or is more developed, please contact us and we can start a conversation. That exploration of a project is always free, and does not commit you to commissioning us. Let’s talk!
